A Good Value Good Preformance (When Active) 1/25/2013

This external hard drive works great and has fast transfer rates but it does power itself down, which is good to save on energy, and extend the life of the the drive itself , but it can be a pain when you have to wait sometimes 30 seconds or so to get the drive to respond when it has powered itself down. Over all I'm satisfied with the drive and I am willing to trade off some response time for a longer product life and lower power bill.
Product is good, more deal will be better 12/21/2012
This product is good and easy to use. I like it. It is helpful to organize my photos.
If it is a little cheaper, it will be perfect.

great deal 10/30/2012
This drive just does what it is supposed to do. I took it out of the box, plugged it in, and Time Machine took over. Now I don't have to do anything. I hardly notice it's there. But my data will be there next time my internal hard drive crashes. Awsome deal on supersize
Works for me 10/27/2012
Quiet, great design & easy to use. Used on Windows XP, Plug + Play.

We love this USB Drive. It's not too big so it fits really well. The capacity is adaquate for what I'm looking to do but you can never have too much storage. It runs fast and the USB speed is much better than my old one. I would give this a must buy and a 5 STARS!!!!!!

Small. Seriously small. The memory housing is like the size of two Pez candies. Hole in the body (NOT the cap... another PRO) that will allow you to place a corded tether to attach the drive to your keys (or for some other similar need). * The cap fits on tightly (you can hear the clicking sound); this has always been a benefit of Kingston drives. * The transfer speed seems decent for a small drive. I haven't played around with this much, yet, as I just received it, today.

This is the best Hard Drive that I have bought online. And actually best one anywhere. It gets installed quickly and you don't have to be a pc guru to do it. It has instructions and Windows will pick up the dirve very easily. The price is resonable and the shipment was fast.

I have four of these drives in sizes ranging from 1 to 1.5 to 2 TB. That speaks for itself.

maybe a little bit noisy. but it is great
It works 5/3/2012
Unfortunately I'm still in the market for a motherboard with USB 3 or a USB 3 card, so I can't say much for the USB 3 speeds. It works fine on USB 2 however, so that's saying something :)
I've always been impressed with Western Digital, and this hasn't changed my opinion yet.
Work great 5/1/2012
The drive works fine so far in 3 weeks. Good value.
Quiet and Quick 5/1/2012
This external hard drive is simple, elegant, quick and quiet. It compares favorably with my old Cavalry HD, which is noisier and tends to heat up. In terms of style, I like the fact that it looks inconspicuous on a bookshelf, but of course that is a matter of taste. My only reservations are: (1) It doesn't have an on/off switch (there is a button in back whose function eludes me - maybe a reset?), and (2) it came with no documentation, but required initializing and partitioning.
For backup 5/1/2012
This was a refurbished device. Works fine but status LED does not show through the front, one can see it through the top grill. Smartware software prevented Logitec C920 software from installing but I was not really using Smartware anyway.
well worth it 5/1/2012
Bought for backup use, is very easy to set up and use. the software preloaded ran very slow, so I wiped it out and used another from computer. I had made home vidio from old tapes and needed to back up over 80gb, with room for more.

Western Digital has always provided me with great products. This is not the first external hard not hard drive I have purchased and the quality is exceptional as always.

This is the first time I have purchased a WD external drive, and it's only been a few weeks -- so far, so good! I bought two and they are super fast and easy to work with. They look nice too, and they're completely silent (no fan). Required no installation -- just plugged it in and ready to go!

A lot of storage for a great price ! 2/23/2011
from Baltimore, MD
The packaging was minimal but sturdy. There's no unnecessary plastic or cardboard. I am using this drive on an older Mac as a jukebox and so far it works well. I simply plugged the power cable and the USB cable in and it popped up on the desktop immediately. Well that’s a Mac for you. It came preloaded with a bunch of back up software and was formatted for pc so I reformatted the drive. That only took a few minutes, very painless. A whole lot of storage for great price in a small foot print. You can watch my You Tube un-boxing of the Western Digital My Book Essential here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZzTEgl_5OA
